MONTHLY MEET-N-GREET-AUGUST 21st

As always, our monthly meet-n-greet is on the third Saturday. Come out to relax, admire the improvements to the pound, talk about projects, theme camps and/or life in general.

See all your friends before many of us head out to Burning Man. Please bring a dish or a donation or both.

*********************************************************************

WE NEED LEADERS FOR CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS

One of the big changes for the KOIpound over fall and winter is that we will have many more events each week, especially classes and workshops. We have a screen printing class coming up in early September, and others are tentatively planned. Please contact Pokes if you are interested in doing a class or workshop or know anyone who might be. We are looking to have at least one a week from September on. Also let us know what classes and workshops you would like to see-Dance? Foundry work? Blacksmithing? Fiber arts? Welding? You tell us.

*********************************************************************

GET YOUR LOAD ON THE TRUCK!!!

Public service announcement: If you are utilizing Charlie the Unicorn’s Magical Rainbow Transport Service to get your precious cargo to Burning Man, your stuff and your payment must be at the pound by the 22nd of August or be left behind.

*********************************************************************

BUILDING CORNER

There are now slips of paper on the corkboard at the base of the stairs outlining tasks that need completing. Please use your building hours to work on those. The building needs each and every one of us to thrive.

Also, we have a shop vac! It’s new! It works! Use it responsibly and empty it often.

*********************************************************************

THE DEEP FUTURE

Looking into the deep future I see Wednesday shop nights and Jonahs Spins for Spinners as well as the September Meet N Greet on the 18th and tentatively scheduled classes for screen printing, fiber arts, herbal tinctures and fire arts.

*********************************************************************

We love to have hands help with projects but understand that many of our friends can’t find the time to visit the space. Here’s your chance to help in a special way…. Make a donation today to help with things like finishing the bathroom, kitchen, procure art supplies and tables for the open studio as well as other fun projects to make the space shine. Every little bit helps!

Members, former members and friends of the KOIpound,

This past Saturday, we had a work/play day and our belated July membership meeting, (announced on Facebook and http://koipound.com/?p=127).

That morning two board members, April-President and Kristal-Communications Officer, resigned.

10 current dues-paid members of 17 total, a majority, were present at the appointed meeting time. The present membership felt that since a full members meeting had been announced and scheduled it seemed logical to hold a public election at that time.

In order to prepare to apply for 501c3 nonprofit status, the membership voted to change structure of the board. The position of Vice President was voted replaced with Secretary which is required for 501c3 status.

Graham Lienhart was then elected as Secretary.

Nathan Cannon was voted as the new president, replacing April.

Matthew “Pokes” Ferguson was elected as Communications officer, replacing Kristal.

Sarah Parsons remains as treasurer.

Charlie Stevenson remains as building manager.

The next formal elections are scheduled for the March meeting of 2011, where each member will have an opportunity to vote for new board members with tenures of whom are to be set in the bylaws to be approved by the membership in the coming months.

As a group, we’d like to create a healthy, diverse organization.  To that end, we encourage each of you to join us at http://groups.google.com/group/koimembers and read the bylaw suggestions there. Please comment, and help us decide on the structure that will govern the organization in the future.

These bylaws are also required for the 501c3, help provide structure and guidelines for the organization and help us to avoid confusion in times of transition.

We see positive things for the KOIpound in the near future. First, steps are being taken to increase communications, which the membership and board have seen as lacking. We are also setting up a class schedule for the coming months and especially over the winter. In addition we will be planning for winter social events, building improvements, adding capabilities to the shop, and how best to set up the second floor for wider use. These efforts require your help, and input.

Please join us on the KOImember’s Google group and speak your mind. Sign up there to help with projects that appeal to you and make suggestions for what you would like to see go on at the KOIpound.

Together let’s all strive to “Make Work!”

Thank you,

The KOIpound board

We are having a work on the inside of the Pound day. We are asking for all hands to be on deck for this work day. The more hands, the easier the work for all:) Please bring your cool clothes, any spare fans you might have for the day, water, gloves, dusk mask and squirt guns optional but encouraged. At 6pm, We are bringing our work projects to a halt to eat and talk about the Pound with you the members and potential members. This is an open forum so please come ready to share your thoughts on our lovely place, the Pound. We’ll let you know what we have been up to as a Board and try to answer any questions you might have of us. Hope to see you there!

The KOI Burners needs your help this week and this coming weekend (Fri July 2 & Sat July 3).  The KOI Burners are going to march in Northside’s July 4th Parade & run the carnival games at the Northside Rock-n-Roll Carnival just like we did last year.  And just like last year we need you’re help to make sure that it happens.  You’ll have a chance to interact with many of the people you’ve been missin’ for a week, listen & dance to live music, enjoy a fire performance or two, and be a carnie to young & old.  More information on who’s playing & performing: http://www.northsiderocks.com/

Here’s the lo down:

June 30:  6pm @ the KOIpound – Parade prep
July 2: 12 noon – 5pm @ Hoffner Park – Game Set up
July 2:  6pm – 1am @ Hoffner Park – Run Carnival Games
July 3:  10am – 11am @ Angie’s House – Pre-parade gathering, leaving of cars
July 3:  12 noon -1pm – Parade march
July 3:  1pm – 3am @ Hoffner Park – Run Carnival Games & teardown

If you can help please contact me at poosie_kat@hotmail.com ASAP.  As long as we have enough volunteers we’ll be able to run the carnival games in shifts, and we’re planning for those who march in the parade NOT to go straight to work at the games right after all that walking.  If you can only lend a hand for couple hours during ANY of the above hours listed, please do not hesitate to contact me.  All hands are needed.

All the profits from the carnival games go the KOIpound http://koipound.com/

Thank you in advance for you help!
April / Poosie Kat
